Friday evening Matt and I headed to the cottage, didn't hit a lot of traffic, and talked all evening with his family when we got there (parents, Meg & Jeff, and momma). Went to bed EXHAUSTED and slept wonderfully due to the fresh air clearing the sinuses. Luckily Matt went golfing with his dad on Saturday morning, so I got to sit by the fire with a blanket reading the 3rd Stieg Larsson book - wonderful! The rest of the day was spent helping prep dinner, making an incredible appetizer - savoury panniers (from the Barefoot Contessa - Back to Basics Cookbook), drinking wine, and chatting away. Mardi, Tony, and Connor (who is now 6) came over for dinner as well and we played around with him for a bit. Had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner which was lovely. Sunday morning Matt made pumpkin pancakes - considering I do not like pumpkin stuff, I was very surprised how much I loved these (from the October Men's Health).
3rd attempt to write this post - it keeps refreshing and deleting. Fingers crossed! Sunday morning Matt made pumpkin pancakes - considering I do not like pumpkin stuff, I was very surprised how much I loved these (from the October Men's Health). We left before noon on Sunday to head to see my family about an hour and a half south (but still north of the city). My dad's side is pretty big so we got to see a lot of family. So nice to hear sweet comments about how fun the wedding was and what a great time they all had - you can never get enough of those kind words, let me tell you! Caught up with the relatives, and played with my little cousins. They tend to be scared of me at first because they don't remember who we all are, but eventually warm up when we tickle them and chase them around - it works! The boys mostly played "police", which ended up with them writing tickets on everyone's cars, and arresting me multiple times (not sure why), and holding me to a tree. They eventually ran Matt and me out of town, which really meant we left. Before that, however, another Thanksgiving meal and lots of chatting away. Monday Matt and I spent most of the morning watching Season 4 of Dexter - we have 4 episodes left - it's so good! I am SO addicted! We headed to my parents' place that evening, and after convincing them that day 3 of turkey dinners would be overkill, they also ordered Chinese - we had quite a mix of food! Got to see my grandpa, and uncle, and my brother and Jessica! Great to catch up with a smaller crowd. Was sad to head back to work on Tuesday, but managed to FINALLY get to the gym after work and had a good workout. I am VERY sore today, and did not go again because of that, and the fact that I had to mark a test and make 2 new tests (which I finished - yay). Wine tour this weekend with both sets of parents - our wedding gift to them - can't wait!

Last weekend was great - Matt and I headed up to the cottage on Friday night, and spent the weekend in comfy clothes, relaxing by the fire, drinking wine, eating great food, and enjoying the hot tub. It was pretty perfect. We also watched about 8 episodes of the 2nd season of Dexter - yes - I know we could have stayed home and done that, but it was nice to change the scenery and be in the fresh air of Muskoka. Matt also made a great dinner on Saturday - rack of lamb, root vegetables, fresh bread - yum! I took some pictures of the cottage decor as well - I'll post those on my housing blog as a feature - Matt's mom has a great decorating eye. All in all a great escape. This week was busy at school, and I didn't go to the gym at all - it's getting ridiculous! I need to get back into it, but I need some motivation. Matt is running a half marathon tomorrow morning and he is continuously getting in better and better shape! I do not enjoy running - hurts the joints and the lungs. I prefer cardio & strength training classes. I also want to start doing Yoga, or at least Goodlife's imitation "Body Flow" class again! *sigh* I need to get going because the year is only going to be busier - I need to push through this slump. I found out on Sunday that my mom's cousin, Patricia, died. It was very sudden - a bleeding ulcer. Her husband found her in the bathroom. So scary! She was my mom's age, so it was really shocking for my mom - so sudden, so young, and we just saw her at the wedding less than two months ago. I went to the visitation on Wednesday with Matt - it was tough to see her husband and son. I felt weird that everyone kept asking me about the wedding and honeymoon and was so happy for us, but I guess you have to talk about something with family you barely see! Keep Patricia in your prayers, please. My mom said the only good thing is that she will now be with her mother, Irene, who died a few years ago. I think I'm getting . I had a sore throat starting Wednesday night, was worse Thursday, then mostly went away Friday. Now I am very sniffly and sneezy. Also dopey - may as well use all the dwarfs to summarize my life. I pray that Matt does not get it before Monday. He went for a short run on Friday and felt very winded early on. I cannot ruin this run for him! Instead I will get him sick throughout the work week :p Last night we ordered pizza and relaxed. Tonight he's making dinner (sausage & pepper penne), and we'll relax again. Sunday he runs at 7:30AM - I'll be there at the end anyway, he's trying to make it under 2 hours. I would like to do some shopping tomorrow - I need some MAC products (my makeup artist did NOT follow through on her promise to get us the 60% discount on MAC stuff after the wedding - grrr), I need some sensible but cute work shoes, and I'll check out some shirts and pants as well, but will hold off on them unless I love them. I don't have the money to spend right now! That's all for now - pretty boring I guess, but it's nice to have some time to relax still! Saturday night dinner at the cottage
Just a quick weekend summary while I eat my cereal this Monday morning. Friday we went to the Jays game with my uncle and Marika. Great game - they were so close. Came back from 6-0 in the first inning to being tied 8-8, and finally losing 9-8. Oh well - still very fun. The last one they got crushed and it was such a bad game so I can't complain about the action in this one. Came back and went to bed pretty early.
Saturday slept in, lounged around with a cafe mocha (made by Matt from our new espresso machine) pretty much all day, took a nap, then finally got out of bed and walked to Vineyards and got some good wine. Ordered Indian (yes, butter chicken is a "boring" choice, but delicious), and watched "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". I just finished the first two books and the Swedish version was actually pretty good! Sunday slept in a bit again, went to the gym, then spent the afternoon and evening starting to watch the first season of "Dexter" because we both wanted to see it for a while but never got into it. WELL - we definitely did now! We finished the first 9 of 12 episodes in the first season yesterday! Crazy! It is a great show - very dark, but very plot twisty and interesting. I'm addicted! All in all, a nice and relaxing lazy weekend with the husband. No being kicked out of our place, nowhere to be, just home! :) Yay TGIF! Heading to the Jay's game with Matt courtesy of my uncle's awesome work seats! Playing Tampa tonight at 7pm. No plans for the weekend so far - so excited to relax and (hopefully) not be kicked out our place again! Maybe we'll do some more neighbourhood walks?!
Friday we headed to the cottage with Matt's dad in tow, made great time - Friday traffic has not been bad at all this year - supposedly Saturday morning traffic is nuts, though. My parents were already there with Matt's mom. I wasn't feeling so great but we all caught up for a few hours before I crashed. Saturday we had a nice big breakfast, watched some of the wedding video Hope made (thanks, Hope!), but we're waiting for it to be put on DVD to sit down as H&W and watch it in full. Had a nice hot tub in the rain too. Then I took a few hours to fuss and get ready for Steph and Matt's wedding at Deerhurst, which is about an hour from the cottage. The wedding ceremony was beautiful - in the rotunda room with lots of light and a chandelier. Steph looked beautiful - lace fitted dress with a train, similar to mine, but with a sweetheart neckline and a tie-up back - just perfect on her. Matt looked great too, in a black tux with dark purple (eggplant?) tie, which matched the bridesmaids purple tea length dresses. The ceremony was short but sweet, and went right into a cocktail hour reception followed by dinner. Great food, all local - butternut squash soup sweetened with maple syrup, field greens with apple vinaigrette, chicken stuffed with ricotta (or similar), and rotating chocolate trifle and cranberry cheesecake - SO GOOD. Late night was sliders & fries, plus tons of sweet treats in apothecary jars made or purchased all by family - that was such a nice personal touch. Favours were blueberry and cinnamon jam (I can't wait to try it), plus a donation to the humane society. Wines were local too - Jackson Trigg - very nice. Lots of dancing and fun games and a great night all around. Matt was the DD so I enjoyed the wine and we danced a lot. Caught up with the pool girls Meg and Michelle, and also with Bianca (who is pregnant with baby # 2 - congrats!!!). Such a fun night! Sunday the boys went golfing and I lounged around reading. I finished "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and started "The Girl Who Played with Fire." The first one took a bit to get into, but then it was captivating. I think the second one is even better so far! My mom has the third one which I'm sure I will devour as well. I don't have as much time during the school year to read for pleasure, but I hope I can catch a few moments to keep it up. When the boys got back we had an early dinner (serious 4pm early bird dinner because my parents needed to head out), and then read and watched movies and TV and went to bed early. Today we packed up and headed home. The fans were leaving the condo as we got there - SUCH good timing. Getting an invoice next week for the work they will need to do on the flooring, walls, etc. The condo will pay for most of it and we'll figure out the rest through our landlord or something. Glad to have peace and quiet. Now to a nice relaxing Italian dinner with my husband, and to bed EARLY since tomorrow is back to school!!!! Hot tub in the pouring rain Just before heading out to the wedding The bride with her parents Vows & Rings Cocktail hour! Meg and I with the bride and groom Favours & Table Rocks Table Decor - very Muskoka Smiley after a fun night of dancing!
So we left yesterday, walked around Leslieville and Queen East, and then ran some errands. Realized they were not done with our place so headed out to Matt's parents' house in Oakville. They called us at 7:30 and told us there would be industrial fans in there for at least a few days. We ended grabbing some essentials at Shoppers and staying the night. We drove back this morning, and saw the damage. Half the flooring is gone, the baseboards are pulled out, and there are tons of fans blowing air and dust everywhere. All my clothes in the closet are coated in dust, our stuff is all pushed to one side of the condo, and we can't really stay there.
We packed up a few days worth of stuff and are now back in Oakville for a few days. I wanted to go in to work on Tuesday, so it's going to be a long drive from here! I have school stuff to do some prep, and there is a Goodlife within walking distance at least. Matt's parents are still in Kingston from driving Meg to school, but will be back tonight. I hate imposing, but at least we are with family! Of course I took some pictures to document this disaster! So much for all my cleaning this week... Oh how I love my friends and family. I emailed out this link yesterday. Wonderful Caroline was so happy to have more of my boring life to read about - I will try to post as often as possible - just for her! Holly mocked me of course, which isn't so surprising, although she has been very calm and sweet as of lately due to her new LOVE - it stung :p Matt told me I was a bit crazy yesterday, but too bad for him because he is STUCK with me. And today I got an email from Matt's parents with some rehearsal pictures, boys getting ready pictures from the wedding, and a few from the August long weekend when we did the Camp Oochigeas Run and practiced our dance on the boathouse roof. They commented "maybe they will even make it into the blog. LOL!" Ohhhhhh family love. I know they are just poking fun - I laughed too. What did they get themselves into when they let ME into their family? :) After the Camp Oochigeas Run - I did 5K, Matt did 10K The ONLY time we practiced dancing to our song "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz
