Friday we headed to the cottage with Matt's dad in tow, made great time - Friday traffic has not been bad at all this year - supposedly Saturday morning traffic is nuts, though. My parents were already there with Matt's mom. I wasn't feeling so great but we all caught up for a few hours before I crashed.
Saturday we had a nice big breakfast, watched some of the wedding video Hope made (thanks, Hope!), but we're waiting for it to be put on DVD to sit down as H&W and watch it in full. Had a nice hot tub in the rain too. Then I took a few hours to fuss and get ready for Steph and Matt's wedding at Deerhurst, which is about an hour from the cottage.
The wedding ceremony was beautiful - in the rotunda room with lots of light and a chandelier. Steph looked beautiful - lace fitted dress with a train, similar to mine, but with a sweetheart neckline and a tie-up back - just perfect on her. Matt looked great too, in a black tux with dark purple (eggplant?) tie, which matched the bridesmaids purple tea length dresses. The ceremony was short but sweet, and went right into a cocktail hour reception followed by dinner. Great food, all local - butternut squash soup sweetened with maple syrup, field greens with apple vinaigrette, chicken stuffed with ricotta (or similar), and rotating chocolate trifle and cranberry cheesecake - SO GOOD. Late night was sliders & fries, plus tons of sweet treats in apothecary jars made or purchased all by family - that was such a nice personal touch. Favours were blueberry and cinnamon jam (I can't wait to try it), plus a donation to the humane society. Wines were local too - Jackson Trigg - very nice. Lots of dancing and fun games and a great night all around. Matt was the DD so I enjoyed the wine and we danced a lot. Caught up with the pool girls Meg and Michelle, and also with Bianca (who is pregnant with baby # 2 - congrats!!!). Such a fun night!
Sunday the boys went golfing and I lounged around reading. I finished "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and started "The Girl Who Played with Fire." The first one took a bit to get into, but then it was captivating. I think the second one is even better so far! My mom has the third one which I'm sure I will devour as well. I don't have as much time during the school year to read for pleasure, but I hope I can catch a few moments to keep it up. When the boys got back we had an early dinner (serious 4pm early bird dinner because my parents needed to head out), and then read and watched movies and TV and went to bed early.
Today we packed up and headed home. The fans were leaving the condo as we got there - SUCH good timing. Getting an invoice next week for the work they will need to do on the flooring, walls, etc. The condo will pay for most of it and we'll figure out the rest through our landlord or something. Glad to have peace and quiet. Now to a nice relaxing Italian dinner with my husband, and to bed EARLY since tomorrow is back to school!!!!
