So there has been talk of a family trip for a few years with Matt's family. Originally we were going to go on a Christmas cruise with some family friends, but that fell through. Then they were going to rend a villa in Tuscany for a month, but they decided on a cruise instead. So, in August, for ten days, we are going on a Mediterranean cruise! We are travelling on Ms Noordam through Holland America, and the cruise is called Roman Empire. Matt's parents have been on this exact ship before on a different European cruise so they know it's going to be great. I don't have the room specifics, but I know that all 3 rooms are beside each other, with mine and Matt's adjoining to Meg, Jamie, and Hope's. All of our balconies open up together which will be nice for drinks in the evening. All of us have "homework" - we have a specific day on land that we are to research and plan for the family, since the cruise excursions are usually expensive. I'm going Athens, Greece, and Matt's doing Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Itinerary:
Day 0 - Boarding in Rome, Italy
Day 1 - At Sea (our 1 year anniversary)
Day 2 - Dubrovnik, Croatia
Day 3 - Corfu, Greece
Day 4 - Katakolon, Greece
Day 5 - Santorini, Greece
Day 6 - Ephesus, Turkey
Day 7 - Athens, Greece
Day 8 - At Sea
Day 9 - Messina, Italy
Day 10 - Back in Rome
We're thinking of also going to Tuscany and Venice before the trip. We were going to go all out and do London, Scotland, Paris, etc., too, but with saving for the house and time limitations, we'll save that trip for the next year probably.
Someone recently asked the question "since when is travelling a NEED" in terms of living. There was a lot of debate around the subject. While I think that I could live without travelling, I really love going on trips with Matt and I'm excited to see all these places we've never been together. We save specifically for trips so that we are able to go. I wouldn't do a trip if we were going to break the bank or be in debt afterwards, but I also know when it's okay to spend the saved money and take some vacation time together. I'm so excited for August (again)!
