Wednesday and Thursday we started rehearsals. Wednesday we read through the entire play, including songs. It took about an hour and fifteen minutes, so we hope that with slower acting and set changes, that will work out to two 45 minute acts. Director already added a few scenes in to make it longer! Thursday we did some "getting to know you" drills which were as good for the kids as they were for me, because I am terrible with names! With a cast of about 54 (yep, we are down a few now who didn't get leads and didn't want to be in the chorus), that's a lot of names!
Tuesday we start vocal rehearsals! AHHH! OK, let's just say it: I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT I'M DOING. Good, it's been said. Now I will fake it until it is all figured out.
We are starting with "Prince Ali" this week, and "Arabian Nights" next week. Almost everyone song involves the entire chorus at some point, making this play much more of a show than last year - I am very excited about it. Prince Ali is definitely the most over the top part of the vocal score - it's going to be fun when they all their costumes and props and are working their way around the stage and aisles! I am getting excited!
