Got my final PERFECT rubric for my course, with the following message:
"Hi Kathleen, your final mark in the course is Honours. Attached you will find the final rubric. I am impressed with the quality of your postings. Perhaps, you will consider a science headship or writing for a science educational journal or textbook in the future. Wishing you all the best in your future educational endeavours."
Woo-HOO! Officially done. You could get fail, pass, or honours pass. I know that the honours will not really change anything in terms of having the designation, but it feels good. I know I'm bragging a bit, but dammit I am proud of my back-breaking labour in this course!
Well, 11 hours and 33 pages later, my learning portfolio is FINISHED! It took a lot of work, but I'm glad I did it. No more assignments or posts or debates! Here is what my instructor had to say about the portfolio:
"Kathleen, I found this assignment wonderfully detailed and a joy to read. For me, attention to details is an important attribute in a leader. Reading your assignment made me reflect on how much we learnt in this course. One of my personal passions is helping new teachers. I am glad to see you emphasized the importance of this. The quotations you used in your assignment were very powerful. Every time I teach this course, I mention the need to make small changes slowly. I am happy to see you feel the same way. No one can be effective if they work under stress. To be a great teacher, you need a supportive husband. You are lucky to have one."
The last part was in reference to the "thank you" section of my portfolio. Among thanking others in the course and fellow teachers, I also said "finally, a big thank you to my husband, who I drove crazy with hours of work and neglect of household duties during the past three months, and who supported me anyway!" I meant it - geez, he really put up with me!
Now I have to wait until Queen's submits all my work to OCT to recognize I did it, then I have to submit all my paperwork to re-evaluate my pay level through QECO to bump me up a pay grade. Now I will honestly admit that it was the catalyst to me doing this course, but I honestly am glad I did it - I met a lot of great teachers and I gathered a lot of resources to help me teach.
So this week was crazy - 3 matinee performances, followed by 3 evening performances which ended last night. I have not slept much and am exhausted, but so proud of those kids who did an incredible job! My family came out to see it as well, which was so nice and so supportive! Caroline even came down from Ottawa to see it!!! I don't have any pictures of me with the cast yet, although many were taken. Here are a few more pictures from the ones I took during the dress rehearsal last week (so now all costumes are completed). My camera died at intermission, so I only have half the show!

Matinee performances were this week - we had rave reviews from both teachers and students from the elementary schools that came. Our students have worked so hard and the show is incredible! Can't wait for everyone to see it!
Evening performances start tomorrow - April 7th, 8th & 9th!

So dress rehearsals started this week - they are going pretty well! We had some issues with costumes - some of the chorus members took "wear neutral browns & tans, something you would wear in the desert" the wrong way and were wearing outfits that more resembled cave girls than people in the middle east. We told them they had to wear skirts at least to their mid-calf as a compromise. We also have the mics hooked up and are playing with the sound levels. 3 more rehearsals this week and 3 day shows for elementary schools the following week - it's so close!!!
So I spent some of Wednesday and all day Thursday of my March Break painting the Aladdin set - super fun. My body is aching, but I'm glad the basic stuff is done. We had to clean up the disgusting mess left from the other school (we share the theatre with the adjacent public school) on Wednesday, and then Thursday we primed the floor, the risers, and the scaffolding, and then painted them. We have to add all the detailing to our sandy floor, but we'll do that next week. We used "Sweet Sandy" paint for our Arabian theme and "Pepper Spice" for the backgrounds.
On Thursday we had sound and lighting techs come in and fix our sound board (which was a mess) and now the sound quality is great, and we have some new lights and gels coming in before the play! We are also ordering more headset mics because they sound great now!
Rehearsals start up again on Tuesday - full dress rehearsals for the next 3 weeks. We found paint to match our genie's bright blue body suit from MAC Pro. Question - who uses blue body paint on a daily basis? The costumes should be finished this week too! Elementary school performances begin April 4-6th in the day, and nightly performances are April 7-9th at 7pm. Get your tickets starting next week!!!!

Finished 4 of 7 modules, got all excellents on my second evaluation! YAY! I don't have to do work over the March Break (although I probably will so that the week after isn't hectic), and there is less than half left. Less than 5 weeks to go! The assignments are definitely getting more challenging and time consuming. I'm getting a lot out of it, but I will be glad to have it done!
