Matt decorated the tree and condo this year - I think it turned out lovely - with a real tree, our usual white, gold, and blue ornaments, and some personal touches from the year. Our tree has a little crown from Buckingham Palace lovingly reading "Princess Kathleen" on it, a star from 2007 when Matt and I had our first Christmas tree together at his condo, the little reindeer I love so much at the front door, and we used the wreaths that Matt's mom got us to possibly use for the wedding at Christmas instead. We also used the crystals that Cheryl added to our wedding ceremony flowers on the tree. Plus the usual giant Ikea balls that Matt loves so much, lol, and our NOEL decor from Jessica a few years ago! I am definitely slowly starting to get in the spirit of the holidays!
So we left yesterday, walked around Leslieville and Queen East, and then ran some errands. Realized they were not done with our place so headed out to Matt's parents' house in Oakville. They called us at 7:30 and told us there would be industrial fans in there for at least a few days. We ended grabbing some essentials at Shoppers and staying the night. We drove back this morning, and saw the damage. Half the flooring is gone, the baseboards are pulled out, and there are tons of fans blowing air and dust everywhere. All my clothes in the closet are coated in dust, our stuff is all pushed to one side of the condo, and we can't really stay there.
We packed up a few days worth of stuff and are now back in Oakville for a few days. I wanted to go in to work on Tuesday, so it's going to be a long drive from here! I have school stuff to do some prep, and there is a Goodlife within walking distance at least. Matt's parents are still in Kingston from driving Meg to school, but will be back tonight. I hate imposing, but at least we are with family! Of course I took some pictures to document this disaster! So much for all my cleaning this week... Woken up this morning to banging on our door and water pooling on the floor...awesome.
Turns out there is a leak in our neighbour's place (we share a wall), and their excess water is leaking into our place. Our laminate is coming up along the wall and you can see the water between it. The tile in the bathroom and front foyer is soaked and we can see water coming through the edges. We have used ALL of our towels to sop up the water, but it's going to keep coming into until the water in their place is gone....great... Plus when Matt pulled out the washer/dryer to see the leak in the bathroom, he tore out the silver duct attached to the dryer and we can't get it back very easily because it's short...so we'll need to buy a longer one or something... I thought the repairs would start AFTER we bought a new house and not when we were renting a brand new condo! Well I'm back. It was fun to blog during the wedding planning process so now I'm back to blog about the married process? Should be interesting...to me at least! Just got back from the honeymoon last Thursday and our condo is a DISASTER. Well, really only one room is: THE DEN. It's where I have all my teaching stuff, all the wedding stuff, all the tons of cute bags and gift wrapping stuff I've accumulated over the year, all my books, and somewhere there is also a desk! It is my project this week. Considering I go back to school next Wednesday (Sept 1st), I better get going. I have a lot to organize and plan for the upcoming school year. Oh yes, lastly, after working out like crazy before the wedding, I'm pretty sure I have gained 10 lbs on the honeymoon from fruity alcoholic beverages and 3 large meals a day. I'm heading back to the gym today to find my body somewhere in the blubbery mass that I have become. Wish me luck! Matt & I finally having a rest at the end of the wedding reception at the Royal York
