So along with the KitchenAid rebate going on until tomorrow, my wonderful friend Killer let me know that KitchenAid is on sale through Amazon for $289 (they are normally $500) and in my colour - Cobalt Blue - SO I BOUGHT IT! :)

Thanks Killer - you're the best!

Boxing Day Home Shopping Success!

12/30/2010

So on Boxing Day we headed to Sherway Gardens.  We didn't go crazy early - we figured it wouldn't be a zoo in the appliance area - we were wrong.  Got there about noon, took us about 10 minutes to get a spot (IT WAS COMPLETELY FULL), and got to the mall with a plan.  We were going to go to the Bay, see if there was anything worth getting with our many wedding gift cards, but really planned to make our big purchases at Sears or The Brick if we had to - they had the best deals.  When we got to The Bay, we found great prices on Duvets and Mattress Pads, so we got some good ones for the new house.  We saw some nice sheets, but didn't LOVE them, so we skipped that.  We are looking for shades of gray with some sort of pattern.

Then we headed to appliances, and saw our beloved Dyson Ball.  We debated getting the purple "animal" for our hypothetical future dog, but there were none left.  Just as we were asking, they also said there were no regular big Dyson's left either, just the small one, which has far less suction (I sound like I know about vacuums...I really don't).  Luckily some saleslady was holding it for herself which was not allowed and we got the last one a few minutes later! YES!  They are VERY expensive, but we got it for 40% off the regular price, which was awesome! We got a pet/upholstery attachment for the hypothetical future dog as well.

Then I poked my head around the corner and saw washers & dryers!  I didn't think The Bay had them, but indeed they did.  The one we wanted was there, but more expensive than the other stores, so I bartered with the manager (very proud of myself by the way) and got them to match the price.  They are delivering it on our moving day in the afternoon to the new house, so all is perfect!  We got a Whirlpool Duet set (front-loading) in white.  We got it in white instead of the many pretty colours, because the laundry is in our basement, in a room that currently looks like this:
We really didn't think colour mattered much here, but we are going to try and clean it up at least a bit so that it's not such a gross scary room for clean clothes!  At least put some good shelves and perhaps separate the furnace part of it all.  There are two doors to this room, so we can separate laundry from utility.

All in all a successful boxing day house shopping day!  We poked around some other stores - Matt wanted some Banana Republic stuff but it was rammed and there was hardly anything left, and I wanted some Lulu stuff but there was a line just to get in the store - yeah - not happening.

PSA - a $50 mail-in rebate on all KitchenAid Mixers until December 31st - think I'm going to take advantage of that today! Cobalt Blue is looking good!

Appliances...dare we do Boxing Day?

12/23/2010

We need a washer & dryer, microwave, and vacuum.  We are thinking about braving the boxing day sales to see what we can find.  We have a lot of gift cards to use as well.  It could be scary busy, and we don't really have a place to put the stuff.  My parents are loaded up, so there's no way I would drop a washer & dryer there...perhaps we can have them deliver it 2 months later?

Suggestions?
